that was alot of work!Whats a good small dog with short hair breed?
I hear boston terriers are really good dogs. very loyal, protective enough, good security if you ever leave the house for errands, lack of shedding, small, fun, loving just all around good dogs. Jack Russel's are hyper...you really gotta work with them if you want to make good house pets out of them. if you don't put time into them, they're just annoying. Chihuahuas can be great dogs, but almost the same deal with Russel's. welsh corgis are great dogs too, kind of like a border collie but smaller. It really depends on how much time you want to work (as in train it, play with it, groom it etc. the more time you put in, the more your dog will compliment your personality.) with the dog. I speak from experience, but if you go to any website that tells you how to treat a dog they say pretty much the same thing. And for the love of everything holy, don't adopt a dog without having some kind of knowledge of what you are getting into. They're commitments and you have to treat them like one else you'll wind up giving it to a shelter or elsewhere. Good luck!
A good breed is a lakeland terrier or jack russell. They don't molt much so they need very little caring for, maybe a brush once a week and are very happy playful dogs that don't need the constant attention that some breeds do.

If you're going to a shelter you'll probably find there are lots of mongrels, pit bulls (in america) or staffordshire terriers (in the uk) they can be lovely dogs but with an inexperienced owner they have been known to be vicious. Talk to the staff thoroughly about the dogs at the shelter and try not to choose the first one you think is cute. Make sure you're making the right choice.

Good luck with your new pet, I hope they bring you years of happiness.
All dogs are smart. As long as the owner realizes that training is a lifelong process, all will be well.

Chihuahuas, Miniature Pinschers, Jack Russel Terriers, and others would work. Go to the shelters or rescues and look at the dogs first.

Edit: Most Chihuahuas I know don't bite. It all depends on the owners. They can be a barrel of laughs. Don't eliminate a certain breed just because what one person says on here.
The dog is called a Shih Tzu. They don't have long hair, (only the pampered ones because their owners make them grow it out), and their short. Also, if you got one and it just happens to have long hair, you just shave it and it looks so cute. I had a Shih Tzu, they are so adorable and nice. You need to keep them clean and healthy, they don't get very fat though so don't worry about them being a little chuby . Search on the web for some pic's of them!
Dude if you want a fun little pup go for a Dachshund( Weiner Dog). they dont shed they love running, playing, and roughing around. They are really smart as well i thought mine how to bring me a snack from the kitchen. And one big thing about them they are sweet as can be they never bite good with kids and they are cute.
well I breed min pins. this is the last litter. the miniature pinscher is very cuddly and stays small! I have two left if your interested!
Dachshunds are great. They are very smart and low maintenance. They are loyal and give you a great laugh with their antics. The only downside would be they can be very noisy (mine are). Apart from that you would have a loyal companion for life.
well you can't guarantee that you'll get a pure breed from the pound. if you do however, rat terriers are nice dogs. as are wiener dogs and others.

any kind of terrier generally will be small and short-haired.

but i love my Lab!!!
Boston Terrier. They are small with short hair and very intelligent and gentle. They need to be exercised regularly so that they do not become destructive.

Jack Russel terrier. Dont get a chihuahaaa they suck. they bite. and they are no fun...Jack Russels are bigger, and are more of a dog and less of a rodent..
My dog sebastian is a mini schnauzer he is very smart and they don`t shed. They love to play and socialize and they are so loving and nice.

hope i helped.
since it's the shelter, there are probably not much purebred dogs, so i would set my goal to a mix. Try a jack russel/boston terrier.
Skatespe, they said nothing about a purebred dog. Wow, don't people comprehend these posts? You'll know when you come across the right dog.
just go to the shetler and make your decision there
