Why do most girls prefer short hair over long hair on guys?

What is so unnattractive about long hair on guys...i personally like it (no homo). Its just that short hair is so boring and everybody has short hair these days.Why do most girls prefer short hair over long hair on guys?
society generally portrays women with long hair and men with short hair. short hair seems more masculine. for some girls there's no reason why they like short hair over long hair on guys. its just what they are attracted to and there's nothing they can do about it. It's like how guys prefer long hair for girls. It makes the girls look, well, like girls.

Guys with long hair to some women thinks it too feminine or they think it's messy and not mature.

I guess short hair on guys somehow looks more manly.
most guys just can't carry it off, much less take care of it - if it does look good - then i like it... most times i also wouldn't like a guy to have longer hair than i do!

The majority of my highschool has long hair, (the males atleast) like over 70% do... That's why you can style your hair when its short... it just makes you look more mature
