beagle
i wuld prefer a dog that is small or medium

has medium hair

and also medium enrgy(i don't want a dog that has little or too much energy)
NO Jack Rusells or Parson Russell terriers - are you kidding?! They'll eat your house, and everything in it.

Small to medium sized dogs- English Springers, depending upon temperament, Havanese, Pugs, mini Poodle, Tibetan Terrier, Lakeland Terrier, some Portuguese Water Dogs... there are many dogs that fit this description at the shelters - just log onto Petfinder.com and plug in your zipcode and preferences, or check in breed rescues -
beagles are good, but they have a need to wander and sometimes run away. I suggest a lab-beagle mix
mini schnauzer
cocker spaniel, sometimes they are hyper but some are very mellow.

You just described a Pug.

They're great lil dogs!

They're always up for a romp in the backyard but even more content to just lay around the house with you.

Pugs do have a short coat but.. they also shed some.

Not too much shedding though.

A simple brushing every couple days during shedding season is enough to keep it under control.

Good Luck!
beagles are very hyper! i have a silky terrier they dont have realy long fur. You just have to get its hair cut every 3 months. My dog is a silky terrier and he is perfect! He is very good wiht people. and he is 2 years old this month!
I'd say a Dachshund. They come in miniature and regular, and in short hair, longhair, and wirehair. They're energy is not to high but they are not at all lazy. Their a perfect match for anyone!
labrador.

boxer

fox terrier

shitzuu

toy poodle

chihuahua

bull dog

english bull dog

basset hound

or you can go to google or yahoo and look up terrier breeds.

in every dog breed there's either going to be a dog that's hyped up all the time, lame, or even just medium energy.

Go to a shelter. Even halfbreeds are good dogs.
%26lt;~~ We have two Pugs. A male and a little female - neutered and spayed. We researched the Pug ... I liked the way they looked and the things that were written about their temperament. We are so glad we decided on Pugs.

They are so fun to be around. Bred to be lap dogs, they are definitely true to their nature. They love to play play play and are natural born comedians. They know no stranger and are great with children. They are happiest with a house full of people and love to entertain. They live for your attention and are very affectionate and lovable. They love to go anywhere and everywhere doesn鈥檛 matter where whether it鈥檚 to the post office and back or to another city. They love to go on walks whether it鈥檚 all over the neighborhood or down to the corner and back. They love to greet everyone and are happy to see anyone. People always get a great big smile when they see our Pugs and can鈥檛 help but pet them. Contrary to what Virgos Eternal Reign say about their shedding, they shed like it鈥檚 going out of style but we love them to death and wouldn鈥檛 change a thing. We couldn鈥檛 imagine starting a day without them!!!

Here's a couple of links to read more about the specifics of their temperament and health problems ... oh, and ... shedding
I have a mutt. If you want a pure bred than a bichon or a cairn terrier. You can always cut their hair how ever short you want.
Poodle!
a Pug!!!

Get a pug!!!

You will never ever regret it!

They are the most loyal, short haired, and meduim energy dogs out there!

They are espscially perfect for a compainion!
Forget the Beagle, for they are noisy as in howling. No one hear mentioned the perfect companion dog A Boston Terrier. They are not noisy, were breed to be a companion dog, great with kids, and easy upkeep. I have had one for 9 years now and he is the best dog I have ever owned.
No there is no ';calm'; dog when you first get them. I have owned many dogs and they all are very hyper for at least a few years if not longer.
Look at dogbreedinfo.com they have tons of breeds there.
