The easiest and most common cosplay of that type now would probably be something from Death Note. Yagami and his suit or L with jeans and the white long sleeve shirt.
However, I would try to find an anime that you've seen enough of to have a feel for the characters. Many cosplays can be made from items in your closet or purchases from Wal-mart and thrift stores if you are creative with it. For example, I love Hellsing, and will sometimes cosplay as a ghoul (tore a t-shirt and jeans with some dull scissors then dirtied them up). I also watch for episodes in my favorite animes where a character dresses in normal clothing and then I can say... ';I'm ______ from episode 11 of ______';.
A warning should be attached to this though... most people will not know you are cosplaying if you follow this method, or they might think it's sort of cheating because little effort went into the outfit or cosplay attempt. Dressing a certain way just to say 'Yes, I am cosplaying.' (I have had people accuse me of cheating on my cosplay before. I have been called lazy and just plain ignored when walking with my friends in cosplay.)
I would recommend attempting to make a cosplay costume beyond ordinary clothing, especially if you wish to get in on some of the wonderful cosplay events (Like group photo shoots!) If you cannot sew, you can always commission or purchase costumes.Who can i cosplay with short hair and who wheres regular cloths?
I'd say Akane Tendo from Ranma 1/2 she wears basically anything with flowers
