what is the reason/history behind cutting hair in military? When the hair grows again do they cut it again, what if they're in another country fighting a war?Why is it required for males in the military to have short hair?
The military(the marines at least) first started cutting their hair short to avoid head lice. They left the patch of hair on top to pad the helmet. Over the years the look stuck and eventually became regulation as it promoted good hygiene.
Yes, even is they are in a combat zone they still cut their hair. They aren't in combat 24/7; unless they are actively in battle, they have downtime when they can shave, get a haircut, and deal with whatever other stuff is needed. Why is it required for males in the military to have short hair?
for many reaosns...
so that your enemy cannot grab you...many rapists grab women by thier hair, prefer ponytails and long hair...so i'd imagine in a fist fight or knife fight, it'd be similiar
to look professional...mulets and rock and roll or emo haircuts are not professional
hygiene...i've had to deal with nasty *** dirty hair in the field....not fun!
to all be uniform...everyone needs to look the same
The main reasons is so it doesn't get caught during combat (an enemy can grab it to get an advantage) and so it won't interfere with you getting a seal on your protective (gas) mask. The other is for cleaniness, since it's easier to keep your head clean with less hair.

hygene. It's the males in the combat MOS's and down in the dirt. Helps keep bugs out or to look for bugs...
And yu still get your hair cut and still are suppose to shave
well like said before so the enemy cant grab and also hygiene reason ..sometimes you wont be able to wash for period time on the field and the last thing you need its ticks infecting the entire platoon its not foolproof but nothing in life is.
2 Reasons, 1 Hair gets in the way ( you need to take care of it) 2 It makes you look cleaner cut 3 Uniformity, everyone looks the same which creates a sense of brothership
Conformity, and especially hygiene. you can't seal a gas mask against facial hair, lice etc, in field conditions. Most wear it with pride.
it looks professional and creates uniformity. it also makes it easy to identify a military man in civilian clothes.
They try to unify them as a brotherhood. Make them somewhat the same. Lets people see them as one kinda.
Safety and uniformity. Relaxed grooming standards can be authorized while in combat, but it's not guaranteed.
In the old days of hand to hand combat, being able to grab hair made your opponent more easy to kill or control.
So people can not grab it.
And it is more formal.
Mhm.
so it doesn't get in the way and to reduce the risk of lice which would spread like wildfire in a barracks
hygiene, uniformity, sense of shared identity.
So your enemy can't grab it.
So the Koreans that have the monopoly of all the barber shops aroung most bases can make alot of money
