I was told it would be easier to just put it in the bun. I think it would be easier to just cut it short. I don't care either way. It's long enough right now for the bun, but I'd rather cut it short if it's more efficient. I just don't want to have to think about my hair while I'm in boot camp. It's the last thing I want to worry about. Is it easier to have short hair or do the sock bun as a female recruit in Marine boot camp?
I went to Navy Boot Camp and didn't have a choice. We all had to cut our hair.
But after a while Navy women can grow it out again. When I went to my ship it was a lot easier to keep up with short. I didn't have to fuss around with all the other women at the same time and I could brush it out and go.
With long hair you have to follow a lot of rules about the type of hair pins and barrettes that you use. If any of it fall out then you have to put it back in place. You won't get to use styling tools like blow dryers or curling irons. You will wear a wet bun for half the day.
I say cut it short for boot camp and let it grow out again once you are done with training. Short hair can look nice. Get a few magazines and see what style you like and get it done before you leave. You will find it a lot easier to maintain.
Note: You don't have to shave it off like the men do...just a short style that will still look girlish. Is it easier to have short hair or do the sock bun as a female recruit in Marine boot camp?
I have been to MC boot camp and am still in, currently over in Iraq. Believe it or not, it is harder to have short hair, leave your hair long so it can be pulled out of your face. You will be going a hundred miles an hour and getting really sweaty and dirty and it definately sucks having your hair everywhere and sticking to your face etc. If you leave it long, you can pull it back and dont have to worry about it, its much easier to maintain as well. You will regret it if you cut your hair before going to boot camp. If you decide that you want it short when you get there, you can get it cut on Sundays, you get the option to go to the barber, but beware, they are horrible. Good luck and have fun, I had a blast. Dont let the DI's get to you, they can't get break you down if you dont let them. Just look past them when you are getting yelled at, they have to yell at everyone. Just remember that it will be over soon and it will be well worth it. I have been in for 10 years and love it, its the best thing I have ever done for myself! If you have any other questions, let me know!
Cut it short. A lot easier. And cuter, too. Try a Buzz Cut!
