I'm looking at buying a white german shepherd and the ad says that they have one with long hair and one with short. Do you think the one with short hair will shed less?If a german shepherd has short hair will they shed less?
The fur won't shed less but will shed shorter fur. Either way, almost all dogs shed...it's like a human losing hair. I loooove german shepherds%26lt;333. I have a golden retriever and we have to vacuum everyday! Get the dog cause you'll love it even if it sheds a lot.If a german shepherd has short hair will they shed less?
Long coat German shepherds will actually shed less than short coat German Shepherds. Of course, either one will still shed a lot, but the long coat will be just a little less. You want to make sure that you buy a good quality brush - this will cut down on the shedding by a lot if you use it regularly.
Please do not base your decision on adopting one or the other just because of hair length. Go meet the dogs and evaluate their temperaments before deciding. Also make sure that you have enough time to commit to a German Shepherd - they required daily exercise.
Also be careful where you are purchasing a white German Shepherd. If this is a breeder, make sure they are health testing, showing, and earning titles on their dogs. Because ';whites'; are rarer than other colors of German Shepherds, many people breed them irresponsibly for a quick buck.
no, it will just be less obvious because the hairs are shorter. All dogs shed about the same amount.
Both long and short haired shepards have an undercoat which will tend to shed more during certain season. Some dogs don't have this undercoat so i guess yeah it could be argued the shed less, but they will lose top coat hairs at the same rate as the dogs with the undercoats. Essentially you'll have a little more fur during some seasons but not much! Much Samoyed shed just as much as my neighbors jack russell.
Hello,
GSD sheds year-round, and generally sheds a lot of hair at once, like a snowstorm twice a year. There's no magic solution to shedding. Accept it. However, brushing two to three times a week will help more of the hair come out in a brush, rather than on your furnishings. Here's more info:

No, long or short, the fur will fall out at the same rate. The only difference is that long fur tends to be a little more noticeable when shed, but that doesn't mean there is actually more of it.
I think that they'll shed equally but the only difference is that short hair will seem less because the hairs are shorter. It is actually the same amount of hair but different lengths.
Agreeing with Xian..
its not the length of the hair... both long hair and short hair shepherds shed equally..
But its more noticeable when the fur is long.
Thats all.
no it will shed a lot but not as much , just a tad less but id go with the short haired anyway. For more info on dogs watch Dogs 101 on animal planet.
i doubt it. i have a shepherd, with how much she sheds, i doubt a short haired shepherd will shed less
No, It's the undercoat that sheds. Daily brushing will help the amount of shed.
nope.. they still have a thick coat and shed quite a bit.
