That would depend on the person's face shape and their hair texture. Generally speaking, though, hair around shoulder length can make the face look longer if it has body to it. It all depends on your facial shape. I can tell you that i have done the Katie Holmes haircut a million times and it looks different on every person because everyone has a different face shape.


There's oval, oblong, square, triangle, inverted triangle, heart shape, and round. Oval is the ideal facial shape, meaning that almost any hair length and style will go with the shape.


Now if you have a naturally more round face, getting your hair above your shoulders will make your face more round, not fat!


If your face is oblong, it might widen your cheek bone area and make your head appear bigger, funny I know.


If it's square, it might be a good thing and soften harsh features that you may have.


Now, triangular facial shape can have two different looks. As long as you have fullness ontop, around the crown area, the cut/style will look proportionate to your face. Now, if your hair is flat ontop, it will accentuate your facial shape, not always being a good thing.


Inverted triangle has the same issues, only if you have more fullness thru the top and falls flat on the bottom, it will protrude your inverted (upsidedown) triangle shape. You can soften it by maybe adding a full straight across bang or even a side-swept bang, To sort or hide the width of your forehead.


The heart-shaped, is pretty much the same as the inverted triangle, a bang would most likely be recommended for sure.

For someone with a very round and short face, it might make their faces look longer if worn very short, while someone with a longer face it might give the illusion of a shorter face.
